Ipswich City Football Club was formed in 1975 with only a handful of teams to give an opportunity to the people of the outer suburbs of Ipswich to enjoy this great game. Now 30 years later the club has grown to include over 30 junior teams, 10 senior men's and 3 senior women teams. The club has a huge supporter base and is heavily involved with community-based projects.

The club's playing fields are situated at Sutton Park, Brassall, with training fields at Ivor Marsden Oval, Leichhardt. Sutton Park has main road frontage in the middle of the Brassall shopping district.

The club competes in the Brisbane Football association with their senior men and women teams competing in the premier divisions with junior and Rooball teams competing in the Brisbane Southern District Divisions. All teams compete from as far west as Toowoomba, North as Redcliffe and South as Beenleigh. We also have three senior men's teams playing in the QCSA competition which extends from Rosewood in the west to Inner Brisbane City Suburbs. The club also offers an introduction to football course which runs for approximately 10 weeks to girls and boys 5 years and under.

Ipswich City Football Club continues to attract consistent positive Media Coverage in local Newspapers such as The Queensland Times, Ipswich News, The Ipswich Advertiser and the local Brisbane Football publication 'Brisbane Soccer Extra Time'. In a population of over 140 thousand, this brings an approximate audience of 50,000 per week. With each team playing approximately 22 matches per season with an average of 11 home and 11 away games each, we attract over 100,000 spectators annually both senior and junior.

In 2005, Ipswich City Football club established the inaugural local competition called 'The QT Cup'. This competition was run pre season to normal competition and included Ipswich City Football Club, Knights Football Club, Western Spirit Football Club and Brisbane Force Football Club. Games are held at Sutton Park and proved very successful with over 3000 spectators over the four week period. This also saw the club make a large donation to the Ipswich Hospital Children's Ward, just one of many charities donations the club has raised.

For a number of years the club has held many junior carnivals at Sutton Park. Invitations are sent throughout South East Queensland, including the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. These carnivals attract over 1500 people per day are very successful and will continue over many years to come.

The club is run by a Management Committee which is run by volunteers in a not for profit organisation. This operation works hard to maintain facilities and equipment provided and with ongoing costs it is vital to attract company sponsorships.

PAST HISTORY

On the 1st of February 1978, the Club was registered as a public company 'limited by guarantee, under the Companies Acts 1961 to 1975, and the Ipswich City Football Club All Sports Limited was created. The Club has a current membership of over 400 families (as of 1^st July 2000) - its senior members comprising two men's teams in Queensland Football Federation (QSF) Amateur Division 1 and reserves and a Senior Womens team playing in the Queensland Womens Football Association (QWS).

The current club's membership comprises of some 400 junior players, 40 Seniors men and 16 Senior Women which combine to be thirty two teams who play in all ten age groups of the Brisbane and Southern Districts Junior Football Association (BSDJSA) competition, 3 teams playing in the Queensland Womens Football Association (QWS) (2 Junior Girls & 1 Senior Womens) and 2 teams playing in the Queensland Football Federation (QSF) competition.

1999 saw the beginning of a dream for many of the clubs members and supporters. Mark Waters joined the Board of Directors and with his push, the construction of a new clubhouse began. February 27th 2000 saw the fence go up around the construction site, which marked the beginning of something that so many people have waited a long time for. The old building was condemned more than ten years ago but due to lack of funds and support the club was unable to undertake such a huge venture. With the help of Walters Construction, the Ipswich City Council and funds raised by the club for the new clubhouse we were able to start building. The construction was managed by Walters Construction, who also injected a large amount of their own funds into the project. This amounted to a huge saving for the club. March 10th 2001 saw the official opening of our new clubhouse. The old clubhouse was gone.

ANALYSIS OF THE ON FIELD PERFORMANCE

1998 we had 27 of our 32 teams placed in the top half of their respective competition ladders, plus our Under 11 Div 7 & Under 12 Div 2 were Semi Finalists and Grand Finalists and our Under 15 Div 5 were Premiers and Grand Final Winners plus the senior mens team took out the 1998 Division 2 premiership thus advancing to Amateur Division 1 in 1999.

1999 saw 6 of our 37 teams reach the finals of their respective competitions. Of that 6, 2 actually reached the Grand Finals. 1999 also say the creation of 2 girls teams which take part in the Queensland Womens Football Association (QWS) competition. Both teams did very well in both of the competitions with our U12 Girls team taking out the Atlanta Cup & U12 Girls Championship.

2000 saw the creation of a Senior Womens team & an U14 Girls Team which also takes part in the QWS competition. We also saw our U15 Div 2 team becoming premiers and eventually being beaten in the grand final.

2001 didn't get off to a good start for one team but in the end that team came out on top. We had a very good year with our Senior Women taking out the Grand Final against Olympic Utd. For the last game of the year it ended up the most contraversial. With one player from Olympic receiving a 5 year ban from alleged striking the referee. Overall it wasn't a bad year for the club. 2004 was one of the best years for our senior mens team. Being premiers at the end of the season meant that they would play Division 1 in 2005.

2005 got off to a good start for the senior men but ended totally opposite. After being the wooden spooners, they were relegated back to Division 2 in 2006. Below is the final standings for 2005. The team consisted of a few junior players that were called to help out as the team was left high and dry when most of the team that helped get them promoted decided to retire.

CLUB GROWTH

The growth of the club has increased a lot in just the last 10 years. (refer to graph below) With new teams being formed the growth of the club is going from strength to strength. 2000 saw the formation of a Ladies team and an U14 Girls team and plans for an U16 Girls team in 2002 are strong possibility.
